This apple crumble is a well-loved recipe within my family and a popular choice for birthdays. Of course you don’t need a special occasion to make this delicious pie, whether it’s a sunny summer evening or a rainy autumn day.
Ingredients
- 200 g self-raising flour
- 200 g brown sugar
- 200 g butter
- 100 g oatmeal
- 1 kg apples
- Cinnamon (to taste)
- Raisins (optional)
- Variety of nuts (optional)
Method
- Mix the flour, sugar and the oatmeal together in a bowl
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat and then add the melted butter to the flour mix
- Blend well until you have a crumbly dough. If the dough remains quite wet, add a bit more flour
- Use 3/4 of the dough to make the base of the pie. You can either use a baking mold or a baking tray. Make sure you press the dough well, to create a thin and solid base. Tuck the edges up a bit.
- Peel the apples and cut them into small chunks. Then divide the apple over the base, together with any raisins or nuts. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples. Then crumble the rest of the dough and sprinkle the pieces of dough over the apples.
- Put the pie in the oven at 180°C for about 50 minutes
